What is the story of the abandoned village area near Carowinds theme park in North Carolina?
A few years back, I rented a log cabin while visiting carowinds. After exploring the paths and trails around it, I came across an abandoned village/lake area, complete with an old water park ride, gazebo, and convention center, all dilapidated and mysterious. Does anyone know what the story is with that place, or why it was all abandoned?

- Carowinds used to be a lot more than it was now i think it had a camp ground and a monorail type train like at disney. But I think they had some money troubles and edventually the park was bought by Paramont. According to the info on wikipedia the 1973 oil crisis took a big hit on carowinds and many plans for it were abandoned
In 1993 Paramount Communications bought the park then Viacom then purchased Paramount in 1994...where we are today.
