Village Breaks

What are the best road trips in Central Europe?

I am planning a road trip starting from Munich and can go to Switzerland, Austria or No. Italy. I am looking for routes that are scenic, good drives, and / or have some great villages or history. Any recommendations?
Thanks for the feedback so far. I am looking for specific routes, and or destinations.

  1. France,Germany,Switzerland,Italy...maybe Hungary,Poland....all very interesting countries:)
  2. Any route through the Alps is great. Avoid the Grossglockner pass though, it's pretty high and in the winter you'll have no chance of getting through. The views over the border of Italy and Austria are amazing, flat plains from mountains.

I've driven down that way many times over the years, and it never bores me.
  3. Sounds like ya got it covered. We traveled from Frankfurt thru Bern to Milano & Genoa onto the French Riviera, & eventually Valencia Spain & back to Frankfurt the same way!! It was two weeks of exquisite driving & Switzerland was FABULOUS! French roads were tuffer but exceedingly beautiful from the Itialian Alps! The roads in Germany were never appreciated until we got back from that trip! Unforunately, Spain was a big disappointment & if we had to chance another European Road Trip, we would consentrate on that space between Switzerland, the French Riviera & skip anything west of MonteCarlo/Cannes!

    Best wishes - drive SAFE!
