Can anyone recommend an interesting village for a weekend break no more than 2 hours drive away from London?
Somewhere picturesque, where you can go for a nice walk in the country (but which is not overrun by tourists!). Thanks

- Pluckley, Kent
- There are so many little villages in Essex, many old, quaint, with good walks, right this second i have been trying to wrack my brains for the name of one we stayed in, lovely hotel, and country pubs not been overrun by tourists. Mail me if you can by which time i might be able to find the name.
The only one i can find is Old Harlow, Essex, many buildings dating back to 14th Century, pretty place with nice hotels, pubs. Though i am sure theres another one that was as good.
- Esher, Surrey.

- Midhurst (in Surrey or Sussex) check out a lovely picturesque cottage Bed and breakfast called Moon light tea rooms. It has lovely rooms or even a little cottage you can hire for a few nights. Some lovely eateries, small village pubs and a pond near bye...lovely walks.
Petersfield
Alton
- Boughton on The Water Oxfordshire.
Beautiful "country village" with a stream running through the middle.
Over-run by tourists in the summer but by now back to acceptable visitor levels. Lots of quaint B+B places in the village and close by to stay at, and sights to see!
- We went to Cambridge while we were in London. It was nice.
- Try some of the Wiltshire villages - see http://www.visitwiltshire.co.uk/
or the New Forest - see http://www.thenewforest.co.uk/
